Review - Christian Louboutin So Kate 120mm Black Patent

There are two main things you should know about this shoe. The first of which is obvious immediately upon laying eyes on them - they are the sexiest shoe. Ever. The second less obvious thing, which you won't realise until you put them on and take a few steps, is that they are EXTREMELY uncomfortable.

The So Kate heels come in the classic brown Louboutin box with red felt dust bag. Also included in the box is an oh so cute mini red dust bag which holds your replacement heel caps. The quality is fantastic. The finish is perfection, the leather is stunning and for such a slim stiletto, they feel incredibly sturdy.

Visually, these are my favourite shoes. The height of the heel and shape of the arch make them just the most beautiful shoe to look at, both on and off your feet (I keep mine on my dresser in full view so I can admire them all day, but just make sure they're not in sunlight to avoid the leather fading). The red sole against the black patent leather is just gorgeous.

The functionality of the heels is a different story. They are tricky to walk in, not impossible but definitely not for the stiletto novice. The point of the shoe is quite narrow, so may be slightly more comfortable on those with a narrower foot, but as someone with a wider foot this makes them even more uncomfortable. The heel is 120mm high, with no platform, so your foot is arched very high. I'm someone who can normally put in a good ten hours in heels, but these burn after a while. Like, a lot.

Size wise, I bought a 35 and I'm normally a 35 - 35.5. I chose to get the snugger size as they're hard enough to walk in as it is, and you really don't need your foot slipping out as your try to walk. That being said, I bought the patent leather, which doesn't stretch as much. They have become slightly more comfortable (less pinchy around the toe) with wear as the leather has given just a tad to mould to my feet. Perhaps in non patent leather you might consider going down half a size.

So Kate are definitely a dinner shoe. They're fine for walking short distances into a restaurant and out again, but I wouldn't wear them for much longer than a few hours, and only to where I know there'll be seating.

Other tips:

  • The stiletto is extremely skinny - be careful where you walk. I got mine caught in an escalator on their first wear and scuffed the inside of the heel a bit :(
  • If you're splurging on a classic black heel that you hope to wear a lot and will be versatile for many different events, this is not the shoe for you! Look for something more comfortable with a smaller heel.
  • Patent leather is extremely hard wearing and easy to maintain. Most scuffs can come off with a microfibre cloth.
Style with:
Anything. As a classic black shoe they'll work with anything from jeans to an LBD to an outrageous party frock. Just be aware of how far you'll need to walk...
